New API specifications CK-4 and FA-4 for heavy duty came into effect from Dec. 1st, 2016. The heavy-duty diesel engine oil market has two new specifications, CK-4 and FA-4. The new categories represent a significant upgrade, but are quite different in their application. The new specs will replace the CJ-4 classification with a split category for High Temperature High Shear viscosity grades (HTHS).
